Muladhara - The Root Chakra

Updated: Jun 18, 2022

How well do you know the chakras? And do you know what personal self care rituals will assist in balancing those energy centres.

But first how do we know if our chakras are out of alignment?

Well for me it is fairly simple, I get sick. And then I get sick again.

Over the coming months I am going to share information about each of the chakras as I understand it and share some simple tips and hints to maintain alignment of them.

This month I am focussing on Muladhara - The Root Chakra.

This is the first chakra and is connected to the Earth and being grounded. It is represented by the colour red and is physically situated in the feet, legs and base of your spine. When it is out of alignment, physically you may have pain in your feet, legs or coccyx area, mentally you may feel unbalanced, unsafe, insecure.

There are simple and effective ways to bring a return of energy to the root chakra.

Dance, move to deep base beats.

Walk in nature with your bare feet on the earth.

Wear the colour red.

Carry or work with crystals that are red or black such as red jasper, hematite, bloodstone or black tourmaline.

Eat foods that are red and root vegetables

Massage the feet and legs.

Essential oils of Cedarwood, Patchouli, Cypress and Vetivert can be diffused or rubbed onto the skin.

I personally spend some time incorporating a selection of the above when creating the Muladhara Chakra Perfume Balm and then use that when I am feeling out of alignment.

I also find that spending time rubbing my feet and legs with Magnesium Magic balm helps me to feel connected and grounded.

And my absolute favourite way to ground myself is walking with bare feet on the earth, especially on beach sand. I love the sand between my toes.

See my previous blog post "Best Foot Forward" for more ideas on self care for the root chakra, including a grounding meditation.
